also known as Bone Char, is animal bone ash, usually made from cow bones. It is used to make bone china, black pigments for paint and ink, to refine crude oil for petroleum jelly, and as charcoal in aquarium filters. It used to be used in the process of refining white sugar. An alterntaive to bone char is synthetic tribasic calcium phosphate.
