While many artificial flavors may have no animal ingredients in the final product, often animal fat is used in the manufacturing process. For example, according to VRG, DuPont Chemicals, a manufacturer of Adipic Acid, an ingredient in baking powder, jams, jellies and more, reports that Oleic Acid derived from animal fat is used as a defoaming agent in the production of Adipic Acid. The Oleic Acid is present in the final product at a few parts per million.
